Obama!

On Tuesday, Barack Obama became the first African American man to be elected president of the United States! This election was the best opportunity for his success because people are angry with the economic crisis, mostly blaming the Republicans, and they are looking for someone who will give them hope. Hope and change were the centerpieces of Obama's campaign, and his strategy paid off. I was not old enough to vote in this election, but everyone I talked to that voted, commented on how many young voters were at the polls. I think it is so important for all eleigible voters to vote, no matter which candidate they support, and this election had one of the highest voter turnout rates ever. People all throughout history have sacrificed their lives just so citizens have the right to vote and participate in the government, so they could have a say in the way things are. In talking to a lot of people my age or just a little bit older, Obama has inspired a feeling of excitement that makes young people feel like they matter and they can make a difference. The citizens of our country are frustrated and angry with the current state of our country - the economic crisis, the war, gas prices, the list goes on. They are mostly blaming the Republican party because we have had a Republican president for the past eight years, and so people are even more willing to support Obama only because he is a Democratic candidate.

I don't know if I completley agree with the statement that people voted for Obama only because he is a Democrat. I think many people considered Obama because they wanted change. Many were fed up with how the United States turned out for the past eight years due to President George W. Bush. Obamas Campaign for change certinly turned a lot of heads and his race had a lot to do with the end results. Many people that I talked to supported Obama for change, and he inspired many people, especially African Americans. This was the most entertaining election that i have been able to witness, and I am glad that so many people went out there and voted.
