Advertising

This ad is for World Non-Smoking Day I found on website of creative advertisements. The cemetery is full except for a small open area that says "Non-Smoking Area". This advertisement is meant to capture the attention of people with drama, implying that smoking will lead to death.  The creators of the ad are assuming people want to live and not end up in a cemetery, and to do that they must stop smoking.  Fear is used to make people change their behavior, by showing the possible consequences of smoking, the creators are hoping people will quit and participate in World Non-Smoking Day.  This is one of the few advertisements that is encouraging people to do something healthy and has a message backed by scientific evidence.  Countless studies and experiments have showed that smoking leads to lung cancer which can lead to death.  Nobody can argue with facts, but many people have become addicted to the nicotine in cigarettes.  This ad is blunt and concise.  The message is smoking will kill you, so quit.

Many people that I know smoke and it's a sad thing to see. My dad used to be addicted to cigarettes when I was young, and not only was he killing himself, he was also hurting my sisters and me. I don't think smokers think about the damage that they are doing to their body unless someone reminds them. I best friend is addicted to cigarettes and I nag her about it all the time. I have asked her to not smoke around me because i dont want to put myself in danger and risk getting cancer from someone elses mistake. Advertisments surley make people more curious to try new things, like smoking, and its looked at as something that is "cool". Especially towards teens, but i don't understand how it is cool to smoke because all you are doing is shedding years off of your life.

I also have very many friends who smoke, and it is very hard to watch. Knowing what i know about he concequences of the habit, and not being able to get my friends to quit is heartbreaking. I had a grandmother die due to lung cancer, and it was mostly due to smoking. The worst part for me is trying to get friends to quit, and having them come up with some excuse that makes no sense whatsoever. Its horrible, there is absolutely no talking to some people. people addicted will make up anything to justify their smoking. I recently heard that cigarette ads are allowed in magazines, i dont know why, but i do not agree with it. Especially becasue all the magazines that i generally read have cigarette ads up the wazoo. If they can make marijuana illegal, making cigarettes illegal should be a little easier. Its more deadly, and less apealing.
