The Bucket

Many Seniors are upset about the winners of field day this year. It hasn't been since years ago that a grade other than the seniors has won the bucket. Why should that change this year? I know running into the gym yesterday cheering on our class of '09 got us pumped up and ready to win, but I think it also had us thinking that we had an automatic chance of winning. Even if it did make us conceided about winning, we won or placed second in most of the events at field day. Those werent the only points we had earned, but our spirit points should have been up there. We had cheered on every other grade and staff, and congradulated the juniors when placing higher than us. While we were doing that, they were hollering back. That makes no sense for the Juniors to win more spirit points than us and win the overall field day competition. Our class Sophomore year had more points than the senior class along with every other class and we didn't win the bucket. I'm not blaming the staff or judges for "riging" field day, but there is obviously something wrong if you put those two years together. So to sum up our field day, the seniors are dissappointed. I don't blame anyone for being upset, but I do think our class needs to calm down and realize spirit week isnt over yet. We can't sink down to the Juniors level by complaining and showing bad sportsmanship. We need to stand strong as the senior class of 2009, and make our last spirit week an amazing one.

Not winning field day was a rude awakening for most of the seniors. I have to admit that i was upset because it's something that i have been looking forward to winning since my freshman year. Rushing into the gym after everyone was such a adrenaline rush and i loved participating in activities. I grade was the most spirited and we cheered on every class. The faculty seemed disturbed by the way the seniors acted, but to me it seemed like they asked for it. How did the expect us to react? To be happy for the juniors for winning the bucket? Why would we want to see them rush the floor and take away an experience that we wanted to remember. It was a bitter ending to spirit week and i wish that it did't turn out that way, but you can't go back and change it.
Winning powderpuff this year did make a diffrence and the seniors were happy for the win especially the girls who had played in the game. But it still put a damper on the start of my senior year.

this field day was unlike any other, as im sure you have heard already. I think it is ridiculous that we have spent such a large amout of time talking about this. As a senior, i do understand the appeal of winning the bucket, however its really just because ever since you werre a freshman you see the seniors rush to the center of the gym to get it. for some reason that become important for you to get. i honestly could care less weather or not i win the bucket. Buti know people who care greatly, and the reason i get spirited, and participate in events is for them. the reason i was upset for the loss was because i felt bad for the friends of mine who really cared. winning powderpuff was a plus, and so was winning the entire spirit week. i was in the skit, which won, and that was the best moment for me.

Yeah i agree, I also have been waiting since freshman year to win the bucket my senior year. Over just a bucket, fights have broke out and people have been talking back to others and that shouldn't happen. As seniors we should be setting an example and shouldn't have overreacted as much. But it is uncalled for, for the staff to expect us to be okay with losing field day our senior year.

I think this whole winning the bucket thing has gotten way blown out of proportion. I mean, of course, it would have been awesome and fun to win and rush onto the floor just like every other senior class before us, but really it is not that big of a deal. Some people have gotten extremely angry because every other year field day is rigged for the seniors to win, and they have suggested a senior skip day or day of silence. These plans never happened, which is good, because I think there would have been major consequences and people should act in a mature way, i mean, we are seniors. It is not the end of the world because we didn't win the bucket, I had a lot of fun on field day which is what really matters, that everyone had a good time. Winning the powderpuff game and the skit competition were good ways to get back our class pride. All in all, spirit week was so much fun! People should think of all the positives of that week rather than focusing and obsessing over losing the bucket.
