September 11th
Recently in class, we have been focusing on the events of September 11, 2001. We watched a movie, On Native Soil, and we have learned about the details and circumstances surrounding the plane crash. Every year, we take a moment of silence and remember all the people who suffered on that tragic day. The video reminded us that people who had families in those towers are reminded everyday when their husband is not sitting next to them at the breakfast table or they have to listen to a 7 year old voicemail just to hear their son's voice. In one split second, the lives of those people were changed forever by terrorists who sacrificed their lives to kill Americans. The video explored how much the government knew about the attacks before they ocurred and what could have been done to prevent those attacks. In my opinion, there were many errors the government made before the tragedy, for example, allowing the hijackers into the country with an incomplete and incorrect visa and having an inadequate security system at the airport.

The man at the end of the movie made me feel bad for feeling bad but not doing anything. I feel like the American people who not affected directly by the tragedy that day feel sorry for the families of the victims, but they are so wrapped up in their own life they do not do anything to help. I am guilty of this but after watching the movie and seeing the actual people, I want to help because I cannot even imagine what it would be like to lose my mom or dad in that tragedy. I am glad that the government has finally taken some responsibility for their mistakes and published the report if that makes the families of the victims feel more at peace, however, the real people responsible for this are the terrorists. I do not understand how somebody could hate the United States so much they would be willing to die in order to kill American people. They did not hurt the American government as much as they hurt the American people, the families, the small children whose parents were killed.
I think it is sad what out courty has had to go through ever since Septermber 11th. I also feel that we needed something like this to happen, but i wish it wasn't so severe. It shows people how unsecure America was and how we were letting people into our country that didn't have permission to be there. I feel so sorry for the people who lost there lives in this tragity. I feel even worse for the familes that had to loose there loved ones and there was nothing that they could do about it. I wish there was something that i could do, but there is only so much that can be done.

Recently watching "On Native Soil" has had me thinking. Until learning the details, problems, and events that occured on September 11th, 2001, I had never actaully knew, or felt the suffer that people face everyday. Being only in fifth grade when this event occured, I didnt understand what I do today about the terrorist attack. So many questions run through my mind. How could the government let this slip by? How are families dealing with this tragedy today? Some questions we will never know. But the reassurance that the government and people around America have strengthend securtity and communities today helps citizens feel safe. America has become stronger, and even though its not over, we are still fighting together as a country.
