Luke vs. McMurphy

After watching the movies Cool Hand Luke and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, it is clear that Luke and McMurphy, the respective main characters, are very similiar. They are both martyrs who die to encourage and inspire men who are imprisoned or degraded in some way. Luke runs away countless times and as punishment, gets beaten and locked away in "the box". He also eats 50 eggs just for the fun of it and as entertainment for the rest of the men in the prison camp. The rest of the men in the camp love Luke because he is unafraid of the men in charge of the camp, the men with the guns and the power, he lives his life to the fullest even if his rights have been severely restricted by the camp. He dies fighting the injustice going on in the camp, and never lets the "bad guy" win, and the men start to idolize his example. In contrast, McMurphy comes to the mental ward and throws off all sense of order Nurse Ratched has created and controlled. McMurphy is also unafraid of authority and he finds ways to challenge the nurse and have fun. The men of the ward gain confidence and inspiration from McMurphy, and start to realize they do not have to live their life according to Nurse Ratched's rules.

McMurphy and Luke are two very similar men. They both have those two sided personalities that tease and trick the other men. McMurphy has his gambling game playing face while Luke has his sneaky cool ways. In both Cuckoo's Nest and Cool Hand Luke, McMurphy and Luke both attempt to escape the ward and prison. They have the same mindset and similar goals. Both men who had previously been in trouble with the law and now trying to leave their problems behind like nothing hd happened in the first place.

McMurphy and Luke are very similar and are both idolized by the men that surround them. They were both risk takers and did't care what other people thought about them, and that is what caused them to draw more attention to themselves. Without either of them the men in the ward, or in prison wouldn't have acted out the way that they did. They would't have taken risks and changed the way that they behaved. I believe that it's good to have someone like Luke and McMurphy in your life because not everyone can act out on their own like they do and they need help making those actions. They were both huge insiprations to the men and caused b the ward and prison to loose some control that they had before Luke and McMurphy stepped into the picture.

The similarities between both luke and McMurphy were amazing. I knowt that the two movies were not written by the same person, nor did they aim to send the same message. However, both movies has alot of the same things. For example, the crusafix refrences in both movies was noticable. Both of the movies fatured a main charicter that was a born rebel, who also had very good intentions. However, both charicters true selves did not come out right away, they were hidden untill a specific event in either movie. in both movies, the main chaircter dies. Which is sad, but it also sends a significant message. both men, in my personal opinion, were great people, who ended up in a bad place by a stroke of bad luck. I would highly reccomend both of these movies to anyone who asked.
